San Juan by Nonstop Flight
JetBlue flies nonstop from Norfolk (ORF) to San Juan (SJU) in about 3½ hours gate to gate, and no passport is needed because Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory. Flights run several days a week rather than daily, so check the schedule before you build a trip around it. Outer Banks Road Trip
The Outer Banks are roughly a 90-minute drive south, which makes them a reasonable add-on if you have a rental car and one more night. Corolla still has wild horses grazing behind the dunes, and the 4×4 beach routes north of where the pavement ends are open to anyone with the right vehicle and some common sense about tide and soft sand.
